Default 4 Wheel Drive Question

I just bought a new 06 F-250ps 4x4. My question is proper use of the 4 wheel drive. It has a manual transfer case. The question is on the front hub locks the proper use? Owners manual only says to make sure both wheels are in locked or free position before engaging into 4 wheel drive. I had a few people give me a guess on how it works but I would like to know for sure. So if you know 100% how it works let me know. Thanks

Yep- keep hubs in unlocked position for normal use. If you want/need to use the 4x4, then lock the hubs, and shift her into 4H or 4L depending on the situation.
