Default US resident buying Canadian truck... ???

I may be trading my truck for one in Alberta, Canada. I'm wondering what's involved besides the 2,000 miles in between me and the other guy like customs fees, transferring, inspections, and things like that. The mileage is in KM also...

Basically bringing a vehicle in from Canada. Anyone done this before?

If the car is new from Canada and you have an American address Chevy/GMC will not do warranty work on it.

Used I think your all set if it is not warranted.

It's used. I'm actually trading my truck for this one to an individual...

I bought a half-cut car a few years ago from Canada to build my RHD Integra and had to pay customs fees to get it into the states (unless the dealer there screwed me out of more money).

It will be labeled as a " GRAY car" on carfax. I wouldn't reccomend it, you will take a bigger hit when resale comes around. Tom

Foreign as in Japanese and European cars are subject to a duty/custom fee.

It's easy to import/export cars between Canada and the United States. The only dif from buying out of your state is declaring your purchase at the border.

One of the problems with the Canadian used car market is all dealers must charge a 7% fed tax on top of the Provincial sales tax (except for Alberta its just the fed). Private individual sales are not subjected to the added 7%. So alot of scammers curbing cars, rolled back od's, wrecks rebuild with washed title, stolen cars etc. The article was a rather light warning for buyer beware.........
