Unhappy Trs Outdirve Full Of Water

Well boating season over early again. Went out today, after about 20 minutes boat started vibrating and then RPMs when up on one side, thought I lost a prop. Limped back to marina at 10 miles per hour. Its amazing how a boat can run in the high 60's with 2 motors and can't get over 10 mph on one. got back and found both props in tack. Checked outdrive fluid reserve tank, full of water, no oil at all. Lost starboard Drive.
Can you say "BOAT"= "B"=bring "O"=out "A"=another "T"=thousand

They call bravo, Brako. TRS must stand for TRASH. My mate just blew the third one in as many weeks. Had two spares when he bought the boat. Now hes down 1. Time to change to Brako, at least parts are cheep. You can by a new one less than fixing a TRS. Sorry to hear your problem. Let me know if you need another TRS. Chris will probably sell his last good one. There will be a bit of shipping involved though. Jas

I don't think you can call a TRS trash. This drive is from the 70's or 80's and finally dies. What other drive of that era is still working. And water in the gear lube is seal failure which is a maintenance issue.

TRS are GREAT drives. If you're going to replace them go with the Konrads. We've had no trouble with ours to date.

I agree that TRS are good, just keep them lubed. We have had TRS drives behind a 78-80 mph Formula 311 for years,in 7 seasons only one case issue,it cracked and turned out that it was previously repaired and we did not know, replaced the housing and never had another problem!
I hear alot more bravo horror stories....
I club the hell out of my little alpha and it has been fine so far, good with throttle and fresh lube help alot.

I've never had a issue with these drives. This is the first time.
As for preventive maintenance. It could be my fault I guess. I change the oil every year at the beginning and look for any water in the oil at that time and I lube them at all the grease fittings, but once the boat is in the water I don't usually pull it out. I check all fluids every couple of runs. I'm not sure what else your suppose to do. I must have lost a seal to have all the oil replaced with water, no even milky, totally water.

By the way I have had the boat for about 6 years and its a 1987 and they look orginal so I would say they must be pretty good drives.
