We had company on our 22ft Mariah, so planing was a bit difficult. We were accelerating out of a unmarked channel and hit bottom while plowing. I put the wetsuit on and looked for damage on the drive. The drive is a DuoProp, and all 6 prop blade tips were chipped. The two 3-bladed props are of different sizes, and at least one large and one small blade were bent as well. The skeg at the bottom of the drive has also been bent to the left. All other drive functions (trim, impeller etc...) seem to work.

In terms of repairs, what is the best way to fix this? Bring the props to the a specialist to hammer/grind them? (they are stainless). How about to fix the skeg? What should I anticipate in terms of cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (We run a 5.8L Volvo Penta through a DuoProp drive, the boat is 10 yrs old).

The skeg won't bend back, so they will probably cut it off and weld a new piece on. Not a major deal. Just make sure that they have done it before. The props can go to any good prop repair shop, and be fixed. Again not a major deal, but it will be an expensive one. I'm not sure what the skeg repair will cost. Props, $150-200 each, last time I had it done. may be more now.

Its unlikly that you hurt it, but check your propshaft for runout (bend). .005 MAX.

they charge 69.00 at bobs machine for the skeg replacement, they have a great rep and have been in business for ever.

If the skeg is mildl bent, it WILL bend back.. A couple rubber mallets, your done.. Props? Good time to send em to Throtle Up and have em worked a bit
