525SC Mercs Upgrade - Any packages available?
#1
I have a 97 38' Fountain with 525SC's with about 365 hours on them, engines leak down only showed 10% so not to bad. However, since I am having the engines pulled to fix a few other items I am thinking about doing some upgrading with a refresh of the motors. Just wondering if anyone knows of an upgrade package out there that could offer some extra HP (looking for 50-100 HP more) along the way with the refresh and not set-me back significantly. I know more boost via a smaller pulley is an option, put hoping to find a proven package that would also include a new cam, heads, etc that would fit the bill.

Thought about that also, just might especially with the extra boost, only thing I need to find out if I can do it with out cutting my engine hatches. I could sell the wife on the parts but not her tanning deck.

Best bang for the buck would be to add some inches to the engines. Instead of heads which you already have a decent head along with blowers purchase instead 2 x 4.250" stroke steel cranks. You can do rods but the GM dimple rod is 4340 and with the 7/16" bolts I have seen them survive 700 and 800HP applications. Sell your old cranks to offset the price of the new ones and then freshen the rest of your components, ie heads and other items and then set a pair of 540CID engines back in which should yield in mild tune 600 to 625HP each.
