I used Bilgekote, Got it from west marine looks good and was easy to apply. I know that there are fancier paints like the Awlgrip avalible also that will work well if you need a color other than white or gray.

POR 15 is awesome stuff. I never used it on my boat, but on my '64 Impala SS I used it on the frame and the bottom pans. Brushed it on and it dries like glass. It is tough and awesome. Their specs are marine grade. Expensive!

Folks,

What type of Prep work do you need to do to the old bilge/engine comp. finish to paint these new paints (Awlgrip-Imron or the Por 15)

Many of the street rod and kit car guys use the Por -15 on their frames

Thank you
Jim

Use awlgrip. Make sure you get the roll/brush on activator and use a roller and brush. Dave

Sherman Williams makes a two part tile clad paint that works great, says for offshore use etc on the back of the can. We have used gloss white and one tinted grey, some going on 5 years ago now.you get 2 gallons that mix 1 to 1 for around 100.00, plenty for the 31 cats and 35 formula all having twins with touch up left. Brush on application, prep by da sanding and wiping with thinner or acetone. Good Luck

I did my bilge in Awlgrip white... White may seem like a pain to keep clean... but you can sure as hell see what is leaking and where it is leaking. Plus under low lighting conditions the white helps you see under the engines.

Make certain that whatever you use is chemical resistant. You can wash Awlgrip with acetone and it will not harm the finish. We have a boat at the shop now that we Awl Gripped the bilge in 8 years ago when we replaced 12' of all 3 stringers and the bilge still looks great. Imron is also good but Awlgrip has a higher solids percentage and you end up with a thicker film per dollar spent. Awlgrip is also thicker which makes brushing a lot easier.
