Default reflective black paint

Has anyone heard or seen this used. A 60' Sportfisher had it's mask painted with black reflective paint to help with keeping temperatures down in salon. It alsmost has a graphite look to it.

And no, I'm not thinking about using it to avoid radar detection

I was thinking about painting my deck black, but I know it would be hot!!!!!!

I've seen it. That black definitely looks sweet! I will check around and see if I can get any info.

Could it be something besides paint? I've used 3M black reflective vinyl (Scotchlite) that has a dark gray look when reflecting light at night.

What I saw was definetly paint, there may be other products like what your refering to but I am interested in the paint.

Let me know if anyone finds it. I will definetly paint the deck with it.

Thanks Tony

Some genl info-- the reflectivity, in paint or vinyl, is produced by near microscopic-size glass beads. The beads pick up source light and reflected light and refract it in all directions- which amplifies it and gives the reflective effect. The beads are added to paint to give it reflective properties. They are a 3M product and are available from any sign supply house. I've tried using the technique on signs with limited success- but I may have been screwing up the ratio of beads to paint. or something. I didnt have the time or patience for unlimited experimentation with it. Maybe a bit of research with some high end painters will get you some answers.

Sounds good, the boat was a high end carolina custom. I'll have to call them and see if they will share info. I believe it was a 61 F & S Custom.

Okay, talked to the guys. Apparently it's nothing more than black metalic Awl grip. They claim it reduces heat by 40%. They are saying has to be sprayed.

Sounds like your'e idea would work just as well.

I looked at a standard Awl Grip color chart with no example. I'll have to find the chip.
