Looked at a 2000 solid black Baja 29 outlaw today with a friend. Boat is in excelent condition other than the deck is faded badly. Can this issue be solved with wet sanding? The seller says the boat was just buffed but still shows fading. What are your overall opinions of black boats?

Black boats are about like anything else. You just have to maintain it and be sure to keep it wiped off. If it has any imperfections it will show up, but they sure shine nice. We take care of six that are almost all black. I haven't seen the boat your looking at, but if you wet sand then follow up with a good protectant, you will be fine. If it were me, I would go ahead and do the whole boat. I know it's a lot of work, but then you would know what products are on your finish. There is no telling what they buffed it with.

I had a freidn that had a solid black Baja. Went back for warranty work twice because of fading. Eventually jusy painted entire top with some type of black paint and clearcoat. Gel just would not hold up.

The boat will be super hot when in the sun. Don't expect to walk barefoot on it in the summer time. I had a baja with a black stripe and the black was always way hotter then the rest. You couldn't pay me enough to buy a black boat...my wife and kids wouldn't have it.
