Here's a first.
Today I launch at the SR 951 ramp and am idling down the canal that parallels the highway when a Collier County Sheriff comes screaming past with lights flashing. Runs down the canal bank and flags me down. Takes down my name, reg. no. & wants to know where I keep the boat etc. etc. Thanks me for my co-operation and says I'm free to go.
Puzzled , I ask if there is a problem ? He explains with the rash of Cubans now finding there way to Florida's west coast they are trying to keep track of go fasts capable of going to Cuba and back. Told him, ya, I can do that ! He laughed.
Month ago Homeland Security stopped me offshore of Naples. They were polite too and said, were sure glad you stopped cause we couldn't catch you ! LOL
Guess we can expect more of the same in the future.

My 38TE center console Fountain has a 425 gallon fuel tank (over 500 miles at cruise) and a ton of storage room, 2 chartplotters and radar. The triple 275 Verado's are stealth quiet too. These are the boats they really should look out for.

I was always intrigued by the thought of going to Cuba. Have talked to different ones including Customs in Key West about doing the trip. Bought all the charts and guide. Started for Key West once with the thought of making the crossing from there and it just got too rough and decided against it. Also had concerns that Castro just might like my boat for a coastal patrol vessel.

I've got a real life story about someone that made the trip to cuba on a 21' Bayliner. Unreal circumstances. This story was shared to me by someone who was part of the investigation after the fact......
