I have a early sleekcraft runner bottom boat.It was metal flake gel coat.I want to fix a couple of spots and paint it . What kind of primer should I use.Epoxy or just regual laquer primer just want to get a good base for the new paint. Any input would be helpful. JOHN

Use a "paint system" - these paint systems will identify "epoxy" for maximum adhesion and resistance to water. Do NOT use a laquer. Laquers have poor general adhesion and tend to absorb water - Any good marine store will have the "paint systems" required for the hull below the water line

The only primer we use under the water line is interlux 2001. It smells bad enough to make you vomit without protection. It is also the only primer Brunswick will let me use to repair blisters. Bottom paint or not. I paint over it with many products. Hope this helps.
