dist gear question
can anyone tell me why a stock replacement dist gear from merc for a 525 SC 1997 has one hole for pin and the stock gear off the dist has two ? I installed the new gear and the dist shaft will not turn. Did merc redrill the gear so shaft will turn or is gear made buy some one so clearence can be met.

It should be the same gear that is on all TB IV distributors. I don't recall how many holes mine had. Is it shimmed from the previous gear????? and now too tight or it won't turn at all?????????

with new gear and old shim the shaft will not turn. If I put the stock gear on and use the same hole as new gear shaft will not turn. If I put old gear stock shim and relocated hole shaft turns fine. I was just trying to find where the gear came from, and who drilled the second hole. ?????????
