Default ?? on steppedhull vs non stepper

Hey guy's I can rember seeing something on this awhile back, but the search button isn't bringing me any results back.. How many mph is a steped hull good for over a non steped hull, at what lenght boat will it make the difference. I thought I read somewhere that it isn't realy that noticable unless you get over 35ft or so, I could be totaly wrong.. If you guys could give me a lil info on this it would be great..

Thanks much JOHN

I thought I heard around 5 mph, not sure. Your boat would really like a pair of 2 inch shortys, and spin the props in for best performance. The docking will suffer with the props in but you can get around.

makes a diff. at any length...

a merc. 525 sc in a fountain 35 non-step is around an 85mph boat. the new 35 stag with steps, 500 merc efi, will run around 105...

fountain steps were put on the 1995 models and from that speeds increased about 7-10mph...

I had to have back surgery Friday before Christmas, & just got the staples out today. As far as the kitty goes the paperworks done just need the doc to release me so I can make the trip.
As far as boxes go, it's going to make the drives that much deeper, unless you get the 3" raised box, then you would have to raise the engines and exhaust up, which may not be possible. Rule of thumb: 12" back equals 1" down. I was told to try 3 blades and if still got on plane the drives were deep.
Well keep digging, each boat is different, and what doesn't work on one may work on another.
Have a good new year and post some pics of the progress.

yah I me and pops have been looking for a set of rasied X box's and we will try what ever too get this boat to run in the 90's, thats what he wants so we will do what we gotta do, regardles of it will be squerlly or not, and overall it seems that the box's will help the handling of the boat, if we ned to gt shorties it will happen, but maybe not rite yet..Will keep ya posted on the progress, hope the boat can handle the chit Thanks and HNY again..
