Do you have a windshield? If so, installing them as seen in the links below is the way to go. The sound reflects off the windshield and back at your ears. Not only could you hear everything at full speed it also projected the sound back behind the boat so when you're rafted up and floating behind the boat, you could hear it loud and clear. This was by far one the best stereo upgrades I did to my previous 252 Islander. Swapping out the Clarion system with an Alpine deck was the other big upgrade. The speakers in the pics were some cheap replacements for the MB Quarts I had in there before I sold the boat.

I installed 1 set of Polk Audio DB components in the cockpit in front of the driver and passenger bolsters, and another set right behind them. You can't go very high, but where I put mine sounds a lot better.
