Hello people and how are you.... I have never had a pair of Merc 6's so I am new to the units. What is the main difference between Wet and Dry sump? Advantages, disadvantages?

There is huge differences.
-Powerloss is big.
-Temperature of oil.
-The amount of oil the drive takes.
I would defiantly recommend having your drives switched from wet sump to dry sump Especially if you are looking for some good results with your boat.

Are there any physical diferences between the wet sump vs dry sump? Would a purpose built dry sump be better than a converted drive?

No physical differences, dry sumps hold 1 gal of oil, wet sumps hold 4 gal,
dry sumps have an internal oil pump, same gears,bearings,etc

I think with todays synthetic oils there is not as much of a hp loss between the drives as before...

It's actually closer to 5 gallons each than 4 for the wet-sumps.
