Just out of shear curiosity, I was wondering what path to take if I wanted to become a driver of a race boat?

Get a 275 gallon oil tank, put a seat in it, strap yourself in tight, then roll it down the side of a mountain. If you liked the experience, your 1/2 way there,lol. Usually most guys I know started with go fast's then moved up to racing, naturally the wallet size can dictate what type or class of boat you can run.The OPA racing organization offers an excellent platform to start racing and bring you right up to the top of the heap under one roof. We started with an open boat and now run a canopied Fountain with the OPA and have been having a blast. If you wanted to try it Reindl boats, alias the bat boats can be rented with an experienced throttleman aboard and it's a great way to get a taste before making a big investment, I believe they run class 6 with OPA. sounds easier than ofroad racing..take a thousand bucks, flush it down the toilet while standig in front of a 500,000 BTU heater while one person pours brown talcum powder over you, and somebody else beats you with a baseball bat every 30 seconds or so...

It all starts at a bar with lots of drinking and your budy says hay why dont we race your boat its pritty fast so you sign up and you go to the first race and say what the hell are we doing here . the buy the time you get done racing your first race you and gitting the **** beat out of you all ready talking about how to make it go faster and when you are going to see all thows crazy guys you met called boat racers.

I actually read an article in Powerboat about Factory 1 , Spring 1998. Sounded good to me!

Making it easier for people to at least try offshore racing was one of the main reason's for the One Design Class, and the entire reason we had the crazy idea of renting out boats for races.

We see people from all walks of life, whom never would have raced if it weren't for our program, that is what has made it most rewarding.
