great deal , considering you have 25k bolted to the back of the boat. Granted, the boat is an 81. But if its clean and it runs, you got your moneys worth and then some.

that's a true statement , am i would belive that Pantera put the same workmanship into a 81 the same as they do today.

i wonder how that boat handles with those ITS drive set ups..

i belive that is the best "bargin" i have seen to date for a 28.

I agree.

What are the major differences, if any, of a somewhat new Pantera and this really old Pantera? Any difference in materials/fiberglass layup? I know the interior is different. What about performance? Lighter/Heavier?

My problem is this - If I buy the boat I am sure that I will really enjoy it for about 5 years. After five years I would probobly need to drop in some new engines because the ones he has are rebuilt. New pair of 6.2 mercs rigged say $15,000. 25+15=40 and you still have a 1981 that you may get $30 for. Or I just sell the boat and upgrade to a newer one after five years of use. So why not go ahead and buy a newer one now for $50-65. If in the long run you know you will end up spending the same amount of money - wouldn't it be better to just have a newer one now.

Not trying to disrepect the owner of the boat, this is my opinion on most older boats. That being said I posted this with the hope that someone would try and explain why this analysis may be wrong.

Texoma,
#1. Be happy for 5 years on $25k, and then sell her for $5k with shot motors. Keep the next $15k (from the new 6.2s and put her in your next toy). Your cost will be only $4k per year!

#2. If you really wanna get smart. Spend $25k on the boat now. Invest the other $35k you were gonna spend on a bigger/faster boat for 5 years at 10%.
After the 5 years, you'll have had a great time boating, and $60k in your pocket ($5k from selling the Pantera, and another $55k (or so) from your investments with a $25k return. In a warped boaters mind, that's 5 years of free boating, plus some big coin for the next 5 years!

Wink

if I was working I'D TAKE A 2ND ON THE HOUSE grab it pull the 350s put one in my baja, take all the new stuff out of the baja sell the other 350, fill the transom on the pan put in my 670hp motor and have a extra itt, b1 drive sell the baja with the used stuff from pan, so I'd get 10 to 13 for the baja and have the pan for 12gs with a single that would be faster than the sm blocksor sell my baja with the 670hp and put in a new 572 or 598 motor which I want nexted anyway 800hp.
