Default Power Stroke problems

On the way to Cinci tonight my truck started makeing a noise up around 3k rpms, sounded like the turbo was about to fly appart. I slowed down and got off the interstate and white smoke was pouring out the exhaust. Any idea what the problem is??

The first thing to look at is a stuck EGR valve. It's right up front on top of the motor. That's the most common but it usuallly doesn't result in heavy smoke. Without alot more background it's hard to say. The 6.0's have had some turbo problems. The 7.3's can go bad too, but it's less common.

Although not a good idea, the motor will run with a completely seized turbo, although not too well. If it lunched the bearing, it took the seal with it and it's spraying oil into the exhaust- you'll eventually run the motor dry. I drove a wounded CAT from DC to Ohio on a weekend once with just that very problem. I crushed the oil supply line shut with vice grips.

That would give you steam & overheating. I'm assuming by smoke, it's oil smoke.

Its a 7.3, I havent made it back out to pop the hood since it cooled off. I was running 3k RPM the whole way down just to go 75mph. Didnt think too much of it tho becase I was driving straight into a very stiff wind and had an entire boat interior standing straight up in the bed catching a lot more wind. I called every single Ford and Int. dealer in the area, and of course none of them will have a Diesel tech on duty until Monday.....grrrr

Bass Pro is right around the corner and theres an indoor range around the other corner so I guess Il have some time to get re aquainted with my carry gun

Sounds like a good reason to go and buy a NEW gun.

Too bad it's not next weekend, there's a show in Sharonville.

Hey, I just e-mailed you about UMP parts. Don't know if you can get it where you're at. If not, PM me.
