Default repainting drives... old paint removal help??

Hello guys... I just bought a set of Merc 6 drives and they are purple!!!!!!! I'd really like to move them back to stock merc black. Does anyone know what I should use to remove the purple paint?? Is there a chemical that will remove this for me or do I need to grind it off?

Also, once the paint is off... then what type of paint is best to redo in black?

Thanks and let me know.

go to an automotive paint store and get a product called Aircraft paint remover. its about the strongest stuff you can get. it will probably only take off only the purple paint and not the black undernieth. the merc black paint is really tuff stuff. from there you can sand it with 180 to take out imperfections than step up to 220 than 320 to finish sand. you will want to seal them with PPG's DP-90 black epoxyprime and paint them with their Concept single stage. wear a good charcoal filter respirator for all painting and priming these are perticularly evil fumes
