Absolutly no benefit or need to reprogram your Mercury PCM555 ECM unless you have made significant changes to the motor. There is no hidden power locked in your ECM that can be released, it just controls what the motor is currently equipped to provide.

Ray, thanks for your comments, however, my question remains unanswered by anyone that has had it done. There was a big announcement that you could do it before the Miami show and nothing since. But since you replied, have you done any to those that have upgraded their 525 EFI's? Thanks

Had mine done a couple of years ago by Whipple.
It idles a lot cleaner and my transom is not so black after a day on the river. It did seem to give me a little mid-range and it will rev to 5,400 (only when I use my small prop and have extra weight on board). I removed the tubulators and had the PMC done at the same time. Pick up was about 2 MPH's.

are they still chargin 700 bucks to do that re-program. I'd do it if it was more reasonable. Kinda pricey for not that much of an uptick. They might have to pay Merc but they would also do more if it was reasonable.

It was $800.00 for the reprogram and low temp thermostat that I put in. They claim around 25-30 hp or something very close. I did it mainly for the rich condition at idle and for some more power. Yah you have to bend over and take it on the price, they were at the time the only source that could do it and would not deal on the price at all.

We do not have the reprogram for the HP525 done yet because we have to finish our kit for the engine mods to the HP525. When this is complete and the motor is ready for the dyno, we will redo the PCM 555 reprogram to match and then it will be done. Whipple can only reprogram 496's. He cannot reprogram HP525's, 600sci's or any of the Mercury Racing Division motors. The 496 is a Mercruiser Division motor.
