What oil is supposed to be used in:
K-Plane reservoirs
Drive Trim reservoirs
I have heard so many different stories, I want to ensure I put the right oil in the right place.

While looking at the oil label on the v/c on my Merc motors, the oil types are color coded: yellow (motor oil), red (PS fluid), and blue ( coolant). So looking at my drive and tab pumps tanks, they have yellow caps. I took that to mean Merc wants motor oil in those pumps. That also goes along with the specs by Fountain and my Merc service manuals.
You can use water if you wanted. It just doesn't have any rust inhibitors in it.
