I hearsd a rumor last night from a guy on the Fox Waterway commission . He said the rumor is since FEMA used all of its resources do to hurricane they intend to raise money by changing the base flood plain level by 10 feet. This will force quite a few people to have to by federal flood plain insurrance and never have to woory about paying out on these new policies. I live on a river and even in the 100 years flood level water was never within 30 feet of my house. With the new base level hoiuses that are behind me which could never flood will be paying for insurance they dont need.
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I talked to a local surveyor last week and he indicated they are looking to change the flood plane in some local areas that have dikes as flood control. They were using Katrina and the failures there as an example. Not likely to have a hurricane in Nebraska but seems there may be some truth in what you heard.

They tried to reclassify my house just recently, I'm on the side of a hill that would almost be imposable to flood. After a bunch of calls and photos they gave up. This is not only FEMA but insurance companies trying to get more revenue for selling flood policies you don't need and Fema is helping them out.
