Default I always thought 6's were unbreakable???

I just got back from Florida today. While walking through the lot behind the Sarasota Poker Run on Friday the 30th,Was a Outerlimits w/a blown #6 I believe. Everything south of the propshaft centerline was gone ....case broke....as well as a nasty hole through the extension box. The 2 down shaft gears looked fine. I didn't want to bother the guy as I wouldn't want anyone bugging me while I was working. A picture would have been great but my Batt's were dead.
The port side drive looked fine ...Any ideas???

he could have hit something in the water

The drive oil could have been low or contaminated

The drive could have been rebuilt incorrectly

he may be a terrible throttleman

He might have tons of HP, its not easy to break a 6 but they can break.

check out the service intervals of a six - he may have gone too long between tweaks.

I saw plenty of broken # 6's at the st claire races this year, they break just like everything else, these guys didn't even have that much power in front of them either BUT I think some of the damage we saw was from a boat spinning out and ripping the drives half off,Smitty

My unlce blew a 'just rebuilt' #6 last year first run out with it. 1000 Islands poker run in August. He had a spare so he swaped it and still finished first. Sent the drive back and found it was the rebuilders fault. He runs turbines and the drives have been great...accept that last time. but not the drives fault.

This is interesting. My lowers are at my drive guys place.
He suggested the drives were not correctly assembled.

I wonder if your uncle used the same dude.

Jeff..... Tell Bill I said hi. His old boat misses him
