Has any used Keith Black Forged pistons in a hard turning engine. I an\ concidering them for a 540. Jas

i really wouldn't, they are good pistions for alot of stuff but they shatter like glass when they incounter harsh condions.
don't skimp on something like a performance 540, if you were doing a fish & ski 350 they'd be fine, but for the peace of mind a couple hunred buck more is well spent on a performance motor.

With the good pistons out there I would look elsewhere. I had a KB piston come apart at the ringland in the early 90's. Tune and installation were on par but the piston was not.

If I read your ? properly you are talking about the [I]forged[I] KB's. They seem to be made pretty good, but I was not at all impressed with the overall finish of the set I looked at. I certainly would not use the Hypereutectic ones although a lot of guys love them. I dont think the difference in price on the forged ones compared to JE, Wiseco etc is worth taking a chance.

opps, my bad i just read "keith black" and went form there. the KB forged pistions will hold up, but they are heavier then the bigger name brands like Ross, Aries, SRP, ect.
i think the KB forged pistions are speed pros, AKA TRW's.
at least thats what they look like.

Everybody has a preference. Enginer builder I know doesn't care for them.
Go with the J&E SRP.

The one set I looked at were pretty bad looking, like they had been finished with a brick Definitely not Speed Pro's which actually are finished pretty nicely.

SpeedPro/TRW's are a well built piston for the money. I've ran them with no problems.
