Default 5.7 Mercury Internals

Are the 5.7 Merc's 2 bolt or bolt from factory? Anddo they have cast or forged pistons? I'm guessing 2 bolt and cast.?

According Moore's book all production Mercs were 2 bolt mains and cast pistons. My merc service manual on 305 and 350's agrees with what Dennis said. The service manual for the Merc HP 377 EFI shows 2 bolt mains, forged Lunati crank, but cast pistons.

Pan,

I have one in the shop as we speak. Basic 2 bolt truck engine. Cast crank, hypereutectic pistons. Hydraulic roller cam. Probably 1998 or so vintage ?

I just took apart a Mercury Tempest.
4 bolt, forged crank and pistons.
It doesn't look like it's ever been apart before.

Hi Mike you ripping my old motor apart? That thing has super low hours, according to Merc it made 300 at the prop. You said it was doing odd stuff last year did you find out what?
Anyway back to the question all 5.7's except for the Tempest and the 377 Scorpions were two bolters.

Phil

The only surprise is some are roller, some are flat tappet. Anemic heads and cam.

Don't worry if it is a 2 bolt, believe it or not there stronger, theblockweb has less holes in it.If your really going to run it have the caps pinned to keep the caps from moveing.I 'v run 2 bolt motors for years in gas flatbottom drag boat.Run them up to 8000Rpm in a quarter mile NP.My 2 cents JOHN

Angel,

I have all the internals from the SBC 400 in the Monza. I was going to build a hot sbc, but got my hands on a 509 race motor to put in. I'll give you the parts at a very good price if you need them. All you need is a block and pistons. I also have a new Victor Jr. and 64cc heads which I had bought for the project.

Frank I certainly appreciate it but the more and more I think about it; I think I'm gonna go BBC and N/A.

Thanks
Angel
