Need advice on transacting sale of boat.

well, sold my boat in 7 days on E-Bay. Got a bit over what I wanted for it. In this market with boats not selling I am pleased but sorry to see it go.
Anyway, the buyer is from Germany and is wireing me a deposit of $2,500 . He is flying into NY which is about 8 hours from me and then renting a truck and driving to my home which is about 8 hours from NY. He wants to make sure the boat in the auction is the boat he is buying. I understand this. Problem is, he wants to take the boat right then and there. He has a bank in the US but it is 150 miles from me. My bank tells me the only form of payment to accept is awire from his bank to mine.
How should I handle the transaction? We are talking $40,000 here.
Insist on wire payment in full before he see's the boat?
Can he phone his bank and authorize the wire over the phone?
Any other idea's?

usually you can'y authorize a wire by phone but you can by fax, if you have a fax machine at the house you can do it, have him come in the morning if he can, send the fax, go to luch and when you come home you should be able to call your bank and they can verify the wire, it usually won't show up on your account online until the next day but if you call they can verify it.

dont know about the wiring stuff..ebay, buyers from overseas just sounds scarey to me...he could probaly open an account at your bank online, transfer the money intothat account ahead of time, then if all goes well, you both go to the bank, sme bank, should be able to transfer funds imediatly, then theres always cash....just make sure however he pays for it, its green before he takes the boat, and if he doesnt take the boat, make damn sure the deposit he put on it is real and cant be recinded somehow before you give it back. CYA!!!

Wire x-fer into an Ercrow (sp.) account set up at your bank. Wire transfer goes into that account and neither party can touch it until everyone is happy, then the money is released to you. That way you know the money is there ahead of time. Smooth.....

The buyer gives me the 40,000.00 ... I call you and tell you I have the money and its ok to send the boat ... the buyer gets delvery of the boat and after he is satisfied everything is ok calls me and tell's me to release the money .... I send you the 40,000.00 minus my fee ....
SAFEFUNDS.COM represents a totally new concept in commercial transaction processing via the Internet. For the first time businesses and individuals can conduct commercial activity over the Internet with sellers free from the concern of credit card, check, money order, or other forms of payment fraud, and with buyers knowing they will receive exactly the goods or services they expect before payment is made and knowing their identity information is NOT being exposed to potential theft or misuse.
· Safefunds eliminates the need for Credit Cards, Letters of Credit, Cashiers Checks, or Money Orders.
· The possibility of payment fraud is eliminated.
· No confidential information is transmitted to a third party payment processor so no identity theft is possible.
· Buyers and sellers negotiate the transaction directly with each other.
For BUYER'S protection, any disputes regarding the goods or services are professionally resolved BEFORE payments are released. The possibility of non-shipment or misrepresentation of merchandise is eliminated.
For SELLER'S protection, delivery of the goods or service guarantees the release of payment with NO chance of payment charge back from a bank, payment service, or credit card company.
Both parties are totally protected financially for the successful completion of the transaction.
The Safefunds patent pending system stops Internet fraud and provides full protection for buyers and sellers at a lower cost than any electronic payment service. Safefunds exclusive double-layer security system protects each member’s account information from BOTH external and internal access by non-authorized parties. The Safefunds system does NOT store confidential Social Security numbers, Tax Payer Identification numbers, or credit card numbers. If the information is not stored on the system, it cannot be stolen or misused.
