KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Baja Marine is mourning the death of its longest-serving Baja dealer, Lloyd Burns of Lloyd’s Inland Marine in Evansville, Ind., the company said in a press release yesterday. Burns died on Saturday after his drag boat crashed on Kentucky Lake’s Pisgah Bay near Grand Rivers, Ky.

Burns worked as a Baja dealer for more than 35 years, and he founded Lloyd’s Inland Marine in 1981. Much beloved within the Baja community, he was recognized many times over the years for his various achievements as a dealer, culminating most recently with his receipt of a Sales Achievement Award at the 2007 Baja Dealer Meeting held last September.

“Lloyd was an institution in the Baja community,” said J.R. Jenney, Baja’s director of sales. “He has worked closely with us over the years, and he treated his customers like friends. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.”

He is survived by his wife, Carol Burns. Visitation will be held Tues., April 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pierre Funeral Home in Evansville, Ind. The funeral will be held Wed., April 25, at 10 a.m.

He had his accident on the lake where I boat at. I wasn't up there that day but heard about it. They have dragboat races there throughout the year. Sounded like the hull got some air under it and up it went. Sad day
