Default H/D Truck shocks

How do you know when to put new shocks on HD truck (3/4or 1 ton)? My truck is basically a stocker, so I am planning on Monroe shocks. I just rolled over 50K miles, and would rather not chew up a set of tires, then replace the shocks and tires.

Yours are most likely shot. 50K on a stock set is about all you can expect. I would not waste my money on Monroe, instead spend a little more and get some Bilstein or KYB Gas.

I put the KYBs on my F350 and love them.

I love the Edelbrock self-adjusting shocks on my Excursions.

As far as when do you know? OEM shocks all pretty much suck right out of the box. Even the OEM Bilstein gas shocks on some GM's are still not the better units.

I enjoyed my Rancho 9000 adjustable, but I didn't have a 3/4 ton. They lasted for ever and they ought to because they come with a lifetime warranty. One of the ways you can check to see if your shocks are bad is by inspecting your tires. Lightly skim the top of the tires all the way around. You should be able to feel some uneven areas like large wide bubbles. If they are just starting to go bad you might not be able to feel it, but if its been that way for months you should be able to.

Even with the air bags you still need shocks. Bilsteins, kings fox, rancho all seem to be pretty good.

My 06 F350 has the Rancho adjustables on the front, and KYB AGX series on the rear, a little stiff,,,but I like it.

Got a price for 4 Bilsteins $240.00 plus tax, they are the BE5-6082 HO & BE5-6081 HO. (autozone) Are all bilsteins good or is this an entry level shock?

Bilsteins will rust bad through the winter from salt. The best shocks hands down are Donahoe Racing. The are gas charged, clear coated(no rust) and the shafts are nitro steel so they wont chip. They also have a lifetime warranty. If you want the best dont waste your money on anything else. You will thank me later after you notice how much your ride will be improved. They are a little pricey but worth it. $99 a piece.

Eldebrocks would be my second choice. All white body shocks come out of the same factory and get slapped with different stickers.
