In the process of re finishing my nose cones. I'm pondering the thought of a change from a simple black to a aluminum color just on the lower untis. Any pics, thoughts, color codes ?

if you installed nose cones, make sure you use a good epoxy primer . and dont forget to coat the inside of the old water cavity with the primer, so you dont get water penitration from the inside out.

as for a silver , mercedes benz brilliant silber metalique is an awesome color.

The cones were already installed ages ago & keep cracking. I removed everything that was there & found they were welded on some what. Sandblasted all the surrounding areas filling in the valley with Norton Speed Grip (poly urethane adhesive). Should be up to the USC "All Metal" by today as a filler. Definetly using the epoxy primer (PPG DP90LF). Hopefully this will be the last time I need to do this. I'll look up that Benz color-Thanks.

I've mentioned this before, but I like to finish mine with a sandable black primer from the top of the bullet down. That way when your skeg finds the bottom in shallow areas (which it will ), it's an easy touch up to fix.

I just did mine the same way. I went with some silver I had left over. I resprayed the upper units black as well after fixing all the nicks and chips.

when you paint them use a good etcher to help with adhesion. hopefully you ve used duraglass or an equivalent to make your repairs

Looks really sharp. I like the way the color separates at the bottom and not to the top side. (Imco) Good work !

Instead of the duraglass I'm using the USC All Metal. This should work unless anyone has had bad results. Will be using a 2 part finishing glaze once rough work is completed.

I've never used what you suggested but may be well worth it. Available in Auto Body Supply stores ?

when I painted my drive and did all of the research for painting aluminum alumiprep came up as the surface prepping solution and alodyne was a pretreatment for better adheasion. yes anybody who crries ppg or prob any other paint should carry it.
