Is there a "special" marine oil pan gasket i need for my 509 cid engine project or will a one piece fel-pro 1884R from summit for about $35 do the trick? Will i need to add any additional sealant and if so, what kind and where? Thanks, Dave

I wouldn't use a one piece felpro pan gasket (your talking about the blue rubber one if I'm thinking correctly) on a mk4 block as they tend to push out and leak(I tried using one and it was squeesing out while I was torqing it down, others I know have tried them on sbc circle track motors and they always leak. Use a good old fashioned pan gasket, seal the front and back with a little great stuff, sides use a shellac or permatex and if your using a aftermarket pan that doesn't fit block perfect use the great stuff on whole gasket. As a added touch, locktight your pan bolts and use new lock washers on them or use studs, marine engines seem to vibrate bolts out,Smitty
