Default Baja's And No Step Bottom...

All of the Baja's I've seen don't have step bottom hulls.

Do they offer step bottom hulls on their boats?

Just curious if anyone knows the real reason why?

I think they made one step bottom boat a few years ago for R & D. They don't have stepped hulls in production now, nor have they ever.

I think they don't make step hull so they ride better. We have lots of people who tell us how good ours rides. I know the step hulls are faster but don't ride as good as ours does.

Your good ride is coming from your steep deadrise, distinctly characteristic of a Baja. I don't think I would say a stepped hull would make the ride any worse (definitely faster though). My boat's stepped and has a padded keel, and she rides like a dream. Completely speed minded, but still handles the rough stuff (within reason of course) for a 27 footer.

And, no, I've never seen or heard of a stepped Baja.

Baja has probably spent a great deal of time and effort in identifying their market.
If it ain't broke ..... why fix it!

Those who prefer the speed of a stepped hull probably wouldn't buy a Baja anyway

Did you see where Baja purchased Checkmate. It would not shock me to see a stepped hull Checkmate. but could they get rid of the porpoise.

Baja, the company, didn't buy Checkmate. A former Baja CEO did.

Griff,

Thanks for the correction, Didn't mean to pass along bad information.

I'm a big fan of the Checkmate look. I have owned 2, sold them both because of the ride.
