Trailer Bunk Replacement
#1
My aluminum slide on trailer is in good condition but the bunks are starting to rot out. They don't look like anything special, just some big pieces af wood with an angle cut. Does anybody know where I could have some new bunks made? (I'm in Michigan.) The old ones are still all there for measuring.

Shouldn't be a problem finding your closest trailer mfr and getting what you need.

Trailer bunks are usually made of Cyprus....but salt treated lumber will work too. I have a set that would be p[erfect for you. They wer on my last trailer when I bought it new and are for a straight hull boat. I have a stepped hull and made them re-make bunks and ship them to me. The originals have been sitting beside the garage for about 18 months.....but I'm a few miles away!!

Hey wantsa 311, I'm headed up to Alexandria Bay this Friday for the poker run. I go thru Richmond, VA so if you want those trailer bunks and are planning a trip to upstate NY, or know someone attending the run I would be glad to pick them up and haul em' up to A-Bay for you. I am assuming they are under 8' long? Just let me know by Wednesday p.m.

I measured them today and they are huge. The two main bunks are 4" x 12" x 12 feet long !!! I emailed Owens to see if replacements are available but it sounds like having them made locally is a better plan.

Mine are 4 x 10 x 12 (or 14) ft long!!!! already carpeted and heavy as chit. The only way I could get them and the baot to the water to swap them was to strap them to the trailer under the boat....and that took 2 people to get them under there!!

I had friends who used similar devices under PWCs on trailers, and the PWCs would come off when you least expected it.
If you can get your hands on some old fire hose (made of Kevlar weave with a rubber backing), this is actually great material between the wooden bunk and bottom of the boat.
