Default Family site seeing trip to New York,,where do we stay?

Making a trip to New York to see the sites with the family. Got the wife and 4 kids...I know its not going to be cheap, but don't won't to get raked over the coals. Wife started looking and the hotels range from 200 to 400 a night.

Is there a reasonable place to stay and be close to the sites?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn, Try the Sheraton in East Meadow N.Y. close to Jones Beach, Cradle of Aviation Museum. 30 mins. to Manhattan (w/o traffic). I am not much into site seeing, as I was born and raised here and have watched the Island get WAY over populated and overbuilt. There is NOTHING like Manhattan....Enjoy your trip. ERIK

Shawn

I would suggest flying SWA from Houston to Long Island (isp) to save a ton of $$$. Plenty of hotelsin this area Islip and Ronkonkoma. Rent a car and you can drive to the Ronkonkoma train station. It will take you directly to Grand central station. Day trip it to save some dough. You'll have some more options out here on the island. Visit the east end winerys and sea ports.
When are you planning to to this ? I'll help ya along if your interested.

My company moved me to York PA, so I think I'm about 4 hours away. We have been looking at hotels online and the wife BOOKED us for the weekend of the 28th to stay at the Holiday Inn in mid Manhattan I think. It 630 for 2 nights with tax. If I could find a cheaper route, I would cancel and find another place to stay cheaper to save money to spend on the kids for things to do. the wife I don't think, wanted to hassle with driving in and out of NY.

I'm defnitely still open for suggestions considering I have 36 hours before the date to cancel and find another place.

PLEASE, keep the info coming!! Thanks GUYS!

I wouldn't recommend driving into the city, no matter where you stay. Take the train, subway, path, ferry etc... It will make your life much easier!
