Default POPRA Long Beach July 19-22

Powerboat Magazine Presents the Long Beach Offshore Powerfest

Think you have what it takes to compete in a real offshore race and have your name engraved on a trophy alongside legends like Bob Nordskog, Betty Cook, and Billy Martin just to name a few? Then, Sunday, July 22, 2007 is your date with offshore destiny.

Auto Club of Southern California (AAA) and Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) returns to the 96th anniversary of the Long Beach to Catalina “Rum Run” Offshore race. First established in 1911 as the “79 mile Long Beach to Catalina Island Challenge”, this was the first recorded offshore race in the U.S. In the mid 1960’s the race was adopted by POPRA founder Bob Nordskog who nicknamed it the Rum Run race. After last year’s success, this year’s race promises to even bigger and better. We would like to thank The Patrón Spirits Company as the newest sponsor of the 96th annual Rum Run Race and Pyrat Rum from The Patrón Spirits Company will be featured as the rum of choice for the race.

This year’s Title sponsor for the race is AMF Offshore racing. Come and watch boats up to 51’ with 3700 hp and speeds up to 200 mph in the Long Beach Harbor. The start and finish will take place along East Ocean Blvd, 200 feet from the shoreline. For more information go to www.pacificoffshore.com. For vendor information call Kevin Cooper at 714/612-3378.

POPRA Racing would like to welcome you to offshore racing. Our mission is to have fun, meet new and old friends, travel to great race sites and race our boats. It’s a simple combination of food, fun, camaraderie and racing that our racers and fans both enjoy.

Lastly, we would like to once again congratulate and recognize, last year’s Overall Winner:

#24 Team Fired Up 51mins28s
Eric Hamann/Craig Cleaver/Russ Hansen 38’ Cigarette
