Default 79 SE upgrade to a ????

with all the boat selling threads and conversions in process -- i should start thinking of my own. Perhaps i could start around September and have a nice winter project.

First off -- many of you know i have a 79 pantera -- i've put a small fortune in to it. I know i'll never get out what i've put in.

So i've been toying with the idea of selling my hull with drive and remove most of the High Performance goodies. This gives someone else a good base to start building with - and i have a good base to upgrade with.

My big ticket item is the Mesa Balancing 585hp motor. Then full hydraulic steering and all the goodies that go with it.

Ideally i'd take mine and convert to a 28 Pantera (i'd need atleast a mid 90's hull).

That way i could take my NEW dash, steering, motor, tabs, trim pumps, stereo(subs), ect.. and virtually drop them in. I'd then need to add transom assembly, drive, cockpit and interior.

I have a friend slightly interested in mine - he could drop in a used 454, convert to cable steering and find an older dash -- he could be up and running for less than 7 or 8 grand.

So i'm kinda looking for a 28 hull -- rigged for single BBC -- get me a killer drive and drop a blower on my motor - i'd be up around 700hp

besides a pantera hull -- what would be some good options?

thoughts?

or am i crazy? (don't answer that one)

i could sell my boat complete -- but i'd be lucky to get 20 for it -- more realisticly getting 16,500

another option would be to part mine all the way out --

Mark,

I would think that it would be better (easier to sell) to just pull the motor out of it instead of all the other stuff you were talking about. Just curious, why are you looking for a mid-90's hull? The older ones hold up pretty well (your's is right?). If you can do some glass work (not real fun), Scott's could always be converted to a single.

There are other nice boats out there.
Brian's joker is a good way to go.
And you should only pull your power, and sell for 11.

I'd like a newer hull mainly because of the weight savings. I think i read somewhere with the older layup techniques i'm gaining quite a bit of weight.

so newer hull -- decent HP -- MORE SPEED!!!!

and really -- i need the room more than anything.

I've talked to scott -- its a thought but he has a deal pending.

i'm also considering that joker -- although i'd hope to get into a hull cheaper than what he wants -- but hey --who knows maybe my girlfriend will buy me a new hull!!!!

Hey mark,
glad to hear you may have sold your hull. You have a great Idea , Just be patient & something will come along, although a mid 90's or so 28 w/o power will be VERY tough to find , or any 28 Minus Power for that matter. ( unless Ironman gets that skater itch soon )
I will keep my eyes open for you & pass along anything that may be of interest to you. Talk to you later , Scott

i'm kinda clueless here -- how do i search on boats minus power, drive or non-rigged boats? or boats needing re-power.

can't seem to find any in the classifieds
