Default I got mufflers...I don't like it.

I got the CMI Sound Elimination Mufflers and ran the boat with them last night, it sucked. Don't get me wrong, they work perfectly, I could not believe how quiet it made the boat, but its just not for me. I fell in love with these types of boats because of that great V8 Sound, and its best at idle. Its a good thing they detach easily because I am pulling them off as often as I can. I mean whats the point of big blower motors if you can't hear them?

I concur! Powerquest ships all their boats with mufflers but after I did the engine upgrades I replaced them with straight IMCO straight tips made it sound A LOT throatier!

Loud is good.

Mufflers are for cruisers.

My pipes are 95% dry...got a lot of complaints the first year I had the boat.

Put switchable mufflers on the boat last year but never used them. With the mufflers just bolted on it made the boat more quiet which was just enough to keep the state police and my neighbors at the marina happy!

If it were up to me I'd still have the open pipes but I'd rather not pay the tickets!

This was before JC changed the cam....sounds much more throaty now!

What's not to like about the CMI's? They are quiet at idle and will open automatically at about 3000 rpm to full flow (loud) exhaust. I have used them on two boats and they work great keeping my neighbors and police off my back at slower speeds. Hit the throttle and you got all the noise you need.

Its nothing against the CMI's, I like the fact that they are just as loud over 3K, but like I said my favorite sound is when the engines are at idle, I could listen to that sound ALLLLL DAY.

Did you lose any top end speed with the CMI's?

I'm glad we don't have noise laws for boats down here.

On another not - I think that if these boats are too quiet they can become more dangerous. When people hear that big roar - they look and they stay out of the way.

Panther, where are you dumping the water into your pipes, and how much? Which motors do you have?
