Question How Much? 6 door

How much more would this truck cost over a 4 dr 4x4 truck. What would it sell for new?

Would there be any issues with the conversion with a few miles on it,vibrations, drive shaft issues, etc?

I have taken a close look at some, and haven't found one yet that the conversion wasn't a hack job.

Thats what I am worried about ,Say when it has 80k miles and it falls apart or has a mysterious vibration that cant be found.

We usally need the room for more people, it would be nice and that extra area behind the 3rd door would make a nice area for some boom boom

Another concern would be the added weight. As the weight of the truck goes up, the towing capacity goes down. If you take the gross combined weight rating (GCWR), adding more weight to the truck leaves less weight available for towing and hauling gear. If you want more room without worrying about capacity, go with a medium duty truck and have it stretched.

For example, the towing capacity on our Pete is 42K pounds according to the factory GCWR on the truck. The boat and trailer weight in around 21K pounds. This leaves us 21K pounds to spare. If we were to modify the truck and add another 3-4K pounds to it, it really would not matter because we still have a lot of room to spare before we reach the GCWR limit. On the other hand, if you take a new Ford F-450 (for example) with a GCWR of 33K pounds and a trailer towing capacity of 24.5K pounds towing the same 21K pound trailer, it leaves only a 3.5K pound margin. Now stretch this truck and add the weight and you quickly close that safety margin. Does this make sense or am I just talking in circles?

Of course, if your boat weighs something like 8K pounds and you truck is rated for 15-18K pounds, you have nothing to worry about when adding the weight of stratching it. It all depends on what you need and what you will be towing.

OK, enough rambling already. It's time to go home and go to bed.

Strip,
I had Alton Truck (Pigeon Michigan) do this conversion for me over the winter it's a new 07. They have done thse conversions for many years and have a great track record. I have in the last several weeks gone to Jacksonville and Gorgian Bay Poker Runs pulling a 38 ZR and seven people and it really doesn't know the boat's there. The workmanship is great I watched all the way through the process. I call it my Suburban on steroids.

Just wondering, how does the alarm system work with the back door open? Did not mind getting up to check on your truck. Great looking ride. See you next year in JAX. BILL P.

Alton builds very nice trucks that look like they are 100% factory built. I saw your truck in Jacksonville and we drooled over it for quite a while there in front of the hotel. Very unique!! I imagine that it pulls that boat really well and it must look great while doing it.

Here is the Alton web site if anybody wants to check it out... http://main.altonco.com/

Alton just took 2 years doing my brother's truck for the second time. If you have time, they do good work. The interior did turn out sick, just took forever on many items.

He finally got it back in the last 90 days.
