i'm looking at a 1984 stinger sl 260 the boat is as where is.boat seems to be in good shape interior and exterior.was repainted all red sometime in it's life.has some fading and a little peeling in a few of the top surfaces.twin260 hp mecr.stainless props.eagle 8000lb trailer.if i buy it and it has motor or outdrive problems and i don't want to fix them what would the boat and trailer be worth.i'm taking a knowlegible boat person with me to check the structure of the boat thats about all they will lets us do other than maybe letting us start it on muffs but not sure if they will let us.

if the seller will not work with you so far as checking the boat out, then as far as i'm concerned they have something to hide. Don't believe anything you hear and only 1/2 of what you see.

If they wont let you "water test" the boat, I would steer clear. When I sell a boat, and the buyer wants a water test, I ask to see the $$$ first and then I atleast know that they are serious. Then I have no problems taking them for a cruise. Otherwise they would just be getting a free ride!

Unless its dirt cheap and you can fix the motors/drives yourself, steer clear!

To answer your question, If it is a really nice trailer it should be worth approx $2000.00 or so. The boat hull doesnt have much value other than parts and I bet alot of people on her would be interested in pieces parts. I know I would have been.

they are asking 8000.00 for it.they have had it for sale for atleast two years.they will put it in the water for 500.00 non refundable if i want it and if it has issues they said they would fix them but if i decided i just did not want it i don't get my money back.but would they fix them correct or just throw a bandaid fix on what ever might be wrong and say good enough.they say there is nothing wrong with the boat but why have they had it so long is what i keep thinking about.

I am not sure about that non refund thing, if you have a deposit or all of then they shopuld let you, Also, noats are not selling well eiither so they may want to lock you in even if there is nothong wrong, I have seen alot of the same boats on the market now for 2-3 yrs! prices keep coming down, 8000.00 for a 260 stinger is not bad, look it over real well, especially the hull.
Chances are if it runs fine and drives go in and out of gear you should be OK, I would pull the vent plug on the drives and see how the fluid looks also, check oil for cleanliness and so on.

they said they did a full service on it whatever they mean by that.one motor they put new exhaust manifold gaskets on.new shift cables, trim switches, and bellows.it was traded in on a motorcycle they said the owner that traded it had one of the motors changed but they are not sure which one or how long ago.one hour meter shows 1280+hours and the other shows 1340+hours.i just dont want to end up with a project right now im almost done doing a complete restoration on a 68 charger.my parents and friends all have boats with twins and none of them have had any major problems just basic maintance.my luck a week after i have it a outdrive will go or a motor, thats what im worried about.not worried about minor stuff.the boat was sold new in avon ohio, then in 89 got sold for 39500.00 to a guy in erie,pa.trying to get as much info as possible appericate everyones input on it .

WROBO, is that the red stinger that a dealer has in Erie PA? I looked at that boat last year and it was a rag. They told me it was in very good shape. I drove 3 hrs to go look at it and it was a project boat. Had alot of stress cracks and needed alot of of TLC. I think they were asking $9995.00 for it last year.

Do you think its the same boat??
