You can get one from West Marine/Boat US or just about any store. Then just read the directions and off ya go. The best alternative IMO is the Gaffrig floatless units. They work real nice as long as you do them exactly the way that they tell ya.

Check this thread, I had the same issue with my 242LS VDO fuel sender...

"These guys don't stock part 224 064 (as it is out of production), so I ordered 224 063 ($77.53), which is a little shorter (12 1/4 vs 13 7/16). From what I understand the gauge will always read a bit low...I guess a pessimistic fuel gauge is better than an optomistic fuel gauge.

Also, unit is special ordered from Germany...3-5 weeks."

Well, I thought it was working, but I went on a bit of a trip over the weekend and the gauge never left the full mark. And at one point I took on 85 gallons, so it should have been moving. Had to figure my consumption by estimating based on miles. Actually wasn't too far off.
Have to go back out to the boat later today and go over the trouble shooting points. Hopefully I don't have to pull it out of the tank.
