I have been reading a little bit (dangerous, I know) and see that reversion is a concern with these engines.

The engines in my boat are equipped with stainless marine dry exhausts now, but I would like to put a wet exhaust on simply for noise reduction.

What do you all think?

How Much Hp Are You Up To With Your Add Ons? Are The Stainless Marines The Only Up Grade? Have You Thought About Slip In Silancers?

All stock HP500's come with wet exhaust.

I have a 2 sets of stock Gil HP500 risers, like new, were take off's, If interested let me know......

The earlier HP500's had a regular "low" riser on the Gill's that some had water reversion issues with. Merc then went to a taller riser set-up that pretty much ended any issues.

CMI headers on mine . Sound way cool but not that quiet .

Mine has the low risers, and the outboard risers have a reversion dam in them. The inner ones do not.

The dry pipes look to be dry only because the water ejection flutes are welded shut. Seems like a guy could simply open those up and have a wet exhaust.

I guess the idea of converting the dry exhaust over to wet isn't so good?

As long as you use the tall riser there isn't a problem. It's what they came with from Merc.(or were upgraded to).

have S/M change them over or put muffs on them there far better than anything out there mine are dry and are 13yrs old now and salt water only, I just flush them out after. art
