As far as absolute limits, I don't know, but Volvo had a 7.4 Gsi that was rated at 405 HP and an 8.2 Gsi that was 435 HP that were both mated to that style DPX drive.

That was probably the DPS drive. The DPX is a totally different animal. The DPX was their racing/performance drive that came with their 500 and 600 hp packages. So, I would assume the claimed max hp would be 600hp, but I'm sure it could take more. Very tough drive with built in external steering!

Nope it's the DPX. I agree it will absolutely handle more HP than the factory put with it, but that's all the info I could find from Volvo in their out of production engines.

I see on your other thread that you are thinking about supercharging. If you are successful you will need props that have 4-6" more pitch. What prop selection is available for this drive?

I knew they mated a few up with their 502s but I didn't know they mated them with any 454s.

I know most of them were used in their 500 and 600 hp packages.

Like I said, they are a very tough drive. They were used on all the Batboats. Like Tomcat said you're gonna need more prop.

Actually a friend of mine was looking at a Donzi Classic with the 7.4Gsi and a DPX drive. Man, I'm losing it!

This is the one that sticks out in my head!

I didn't see the hydraulic steering at first. Nice setup.
