Default 2007 St. Clair Offshore Classic and Riverfest Draws Huge Crowds

July 30, 2007 : The fourth stop on the 2007 Offshore Pro-Series Tour, The 2007 Formula Boats St. Clair River Classic, drew more than 30,000 spectators to the small city of St. Clair Michigan. According to St. Clair Police Chief, Donald Barnum, “This is the largest event the city has ever experienced.” as the thrills of powerboat racing combined with a music festival and carnival midway turned the city into a 4 day entertainment venue.
The OPA racing organization, producers of the offshore event, are to be congratulated on hosting what is unquestionably one of the finest races on the circuit. With over 50 boats competing in both Production and Pro-Series classes, the fans lining the St. Clair River on Saturday and Sunday were treated to some of the most exciting, up close racing action on the Tour.
In Sunday’s 3rd race, 16 Pro-Series boats filled the course, competing in 3 classes. When it was all over, Miss Geico took first place in the Cat Extreme Class, Reliable Carriers (US-1) claimed the checkered flag in the Super Cat Class, and team Amzoil was victorious in Super Cat Lite over a field of 8 entries.
Wrapping up another great weekend of racing, the Offshore Pro-Series wishes to thank the loyal and supportive St. Clair fan base as well as the local St. Clair merchants for their support of offshore racing, and we also want to express our appreciation to the OPA organization, its staff, race officials and volunteers for conducting this well run, safe racing event.

The Offshore Pro-Series Tour is comprised of a consortium of professional offshore powerboat racing teams that compete on a nationwide circuit of powerboat races, sanctioned by DRRA, OSS, SBI, OPA, and POPRA. In 2007 the Tour includes the following scheduled races:
St. Cloud, Florida (SBI) March 30 - April 1
Ocean City, Maryland (OPA) June 15 - June 17
Sarasota, Florida (SBI) June 29 - July 1
Detroit, Michigan (DRRA) July 13 - July 15
St. Clair, Michigan (OPA) July 27 - July 29
Orange Beach, Alabama (OSS) August 17 - August 19
Pittsburg, California (POPRA) September 7 - September 9
Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri (OSS) September 28 - September 30
Deerfield Beach, Florida (SBI) October 5 - October 7
Key West, Florida (SBI) (World Championships) November 4 - November

Thumbs up OSS Teams are gratefull!

Thanks to the Pro Series for allowing the OSS boats to compete with them in St Clair. We all had a great time and thanks to Tom Abrahams, OPA, St. Clair, Bluewater, and Geiko for making their resources available to all participants as well as our teams. Beautiful place with cool nights. The only problem I had was a fuel pump on the 1st lap. Oh well Orange Beach is around the corner and everyone is invited!
Anyone who needs help with anything , just call as we are right around the corner with boatloads of Southern Hospitality and food.

See Ya in O.B.

Thumbs up

To everyone responsible for this huge event, THANK YOU for making it worth my trip !

I saw a huge increase in Vendor participation this year as well!
Word must have got out during the off season...

I still say this is one of the best fan friendly sites on the schedule. View of 3/4 of the course and never stopping action on the water. It may have been calm water, but that didn't keep alot of these boats stuck to the water!

I have many photos already online, but still have alot more to go.

Enjoy!

Great to see ya again Stan!
