Default Trim pump electrical help

My buddy has a OMC trim pump that isn't working. I grab my volt meter and head over.

He hits the switch and it clicks both up and down. So, I check the voltage. This is how it is set-up(I forgot to take a pic).

Right side, larger gauge positive and negative connections.

Left side:

On top is green larger gauge wirer that goes to pump.
Under that green wire from switch.
Under that red wire(I assume gets power through the circuit breaker on the selenoid).
Under that blue wire from switch.
Under that larger gauge blue wire that goes to pump.

Okay, both the positive connections have 12 volts all the time. When he hits the up switch both the blue wires have 12 volts. When he hits down both the green wires have 12 volts. So, that tells me the selenoid is working, right?

Here's where it gets weird. Just to verify the pump was bad I took a jumper wire from the positive right side and jumped it to the larger blue wire. Which should give the blue wire juice and make the drive come up if the pump is working. It throws a ton of sparks like I touched two hot wires together. So I hit the green one, same thing. So, then I jump it from the power source on the lft bank and it blows the breaker. HE IS NOT TOUCHING THE SWITCH.

Why is this acting like I am touching two hot wires together when only one has 12 volts? I have done this on a merc pump before and it worked. I don't get it!

This is the only pic I could find on the net.

Sounds like a bad pump, could just be the brushes. Blue is up (sky) green is down (grass)....at least that is how I remember.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking to but I don't understand why it blows the breaker when I try and jump 12 volts directly to the pump.

Maybe it's overloading the breaker because the pump won't move?
