Question on which boat.
Hi newbe here looking to buy a new or slightly used boat I am stuck between 27ZR and the 26ZX? can someone shed some light between the two? I have been out of boating since the early 90s. My last boat was a 26 Scarab. I have also looked at the Baja Outlaw 26 and Fountain 27 Fever any info on these boats? I live in Southwest fl So I would be boating in the Gulf around Sanibel and Naples area. Thank you in advance for any info.

I love the Donzi's and would lean toward them myself. Both are nice boats. The Zx is a nice boat with more cabin room than the Zr. The Zr is much faster on the same power and has a kick azz cockpit layout and in my opinion better looks. The best person to talk to is Frank C. @ Typhoon Performance Marine. He is a long time Donzi man and has been in every model. He owns a 26 Zx and still has it for sale I believe at a really good price.

I always had Donzi Classics & I looked at the Fountain 27 as well. The ZR is a much flatter running boat due to the new hull design. The others are dated designs that have been around awhile. The ZR will leave a comparably powered Fountain bouncing away behind it in rough water.
My 27ZR has been a great boat so far. Ran 71 out of the box w/the 496HO & 26p BravoI prop. I'm now running a labbed 26p Maximus @ 70 but the cruise is awesome(50 @ 3650 RPM). The build quality is first rate & they have incorporated many of the bigger ZR design cues into the 27(hatches, dash/cockpit, anchor locker & hull design. The way the ZRs pump air in & back out from under the hull works very well & makes for a flat, sweet riding boat. Good luck with your search!
PS: Here's a pic of mine last weekend:

I own a 26ZX with 580 HP the big difference between the boats is speed and comfort, the 26ZX is higher inside the cabin and has more room in the cockpit are, If you are running in the Ocean the boats almost run the same the 26 ZX is a heavier boat then the 27ZR so the speeds are different, the 26 ZX with a 496/HO will run 64mph top the 27 ZR will run 72mph with the same engine. more efficent bottom on the ZR models, what ever your choice they are both great boats.
