Will a 380 plate replace a 280 by just swapping plates?

Mine did with no issues. However there was a post not long ago about different generations having different width cylinders causing conflict.

You should check them for clearance at full steering.Turn the drives to full lock and run both the tabs and drives up/down looking for interference. When I moved up to 380's,Diamond Performance cut them to clear my Number 5's. I've heard that Mercury has a template for this. As I recall, running a staggered set up is usually a clean swap. Fior what its worth...
