What's the difference between a Mirage and a Mirage Plus? How does a Laser II compare to a Mirage?

I'm intrigued by the High Five, Maximus and Hydromotive P5 five-bladed props.

What pitch would I have to run to accomplish the same RPM at top-end as a 23P Mirage three blade?

What are the pros and cons? The boat in question is a 26' Corsa with a single BBC/TRS setup.

The Mirage Plus has an increased amount of cup over that of the Mirage. So the Mirage Plus will have a lower RPM than that of a Mirage, of the same pitch.

The High Five made by Mercury is a very small diameter propeller and runs well on boats less than 23' in length. The same holds true for the Laser II propeller.

Now the Hydro P5 is a semi-cleaver (stern lifter) with a 15.5 diameter and the P5-X has a 15" diameter with a round ear blade design.

Then Maximus is a round ear as well available in 3 diamters from 15.25" to 15 5/8", runs best lab finished.

Your drive heigth will dictate which propeller will perform better and engine weight may also be a consideration.

Funny, I've been wondering the same thing. So if a boat came with 23p Mirages originally, does the M+ offer any improvement? Or is it better to step up to a 4-blade?

This will be my first post in this forum, replying to an very interesting thread. I have bought Mr. Blitz old 311 with the 502 Mag engines and transported her to Sweden from Guernsey the channel Island in UK. I have enjoyed a lot of good riding this summer. My boat is equiped with the original Mirage 21" (1:36) Bravo drives. I was hitting honest 57,6 knots which is about 66mph on my GPS. I have just bought a pair of 21" Mirage plus, which I will test as soon as the weather allows. I I expect to pick up a few mph more but I'll report as soon as this has been done.

In theory, cupping provides more forward motion but at the sacrifice of engine rpm, correct? So again, in theory, if I was running a custom cupped and pitched up 23 Mirage and achieving 4800 rpms, a 21P Mirage with the same cupping should put me into the 5400-5600 rpm range I desire?

We really have multiple threads going on here. Or at least we should have.

Most of what Julie stated I am in agreement with. There are extensions to some of it however. The added cupping to the M+ may not hinder rpm if the boat attitude is improved. The Mirage standard can and will have better top speeds on boats requiring less lift.

The High 5 was designed for outboard ski boats and still kicks some butt on my 20 ft. Bullet for acelleration. It will work on stern drives for low end and mid range. Agreed the boat must be in the 20 something range with certain goals.

Maximus, well they come in 1 size stock, 15 5/8". Labbed, they come in any thing your heart desires. Well at least BBLADES will custom size it to the application you have.

Each application is different and a discussion with your propeller specialist is essential in achieving your ultimate goals.
