My buddy just got a "family truckster" with the Gi's and we're wondering where the Gxi gets the +40hp. Would it be as simple as a cam/ECU change?
Also, what's the Volvo exhaust like? Are there improvements to be made by going aftermarket?
Is there a Volvo parts lookup site that's as good as what we're used to with our favorite OSO dealers?

I replaced an engine ( 5.7 GXI)for a guy last year that
froze one.
When I was reaserching it, as I recall
the "Gi" was a throttle body, the Gxi
is port injected.
I believe the long blocks are the same.
I ended up replacing it with a GM 5.7
vortec marine and hanging on the accessories
off the old motor.
One thing the "Gxi" does have is comp camps
1.6 roller tip rockers vs. the standard stamped
GM pieces.
A Merc 350 mag is the same basic engine
but uses the stock rockers.... 300 hp
The Gxi I did, did have some kind of
e.g.t. sensors in the exhaust risers, so
I don't know how crazy you can get with the exhaust on it.
I use Doug Russell's site for parts look up.
Is it as good as BAM's....I personally don't think so.
