I have 04 f250 6.0 crew . could be buying 35 fasttech 9,500 plus Eagle trailer = 12,500 does this sound about right if so can i pull safely . also I will be putting on air bags on. my factory hitch is rated for 12.500 doesn't leave much !! thanks

I evaluated same situation for my own boat. I suggest you pull with both F250 and a Dually before you make your mind up. You said the key word "Safe" ! After the test of both tow vehicles it was a simple choice. Driving both will let you know how marginal the F250 is in this case. Good luck.

There's a wealth of knowledge and alot of goodbut differing opinion through this section of the forum. This is almost a weekly question posed here- usually this exact scenario. No sense doing the same exact debate every week. you'll learn alot just trolling back a month or so.

Short answer- No. Marginal is being slightly generous. It will pull it, but at highway speeds, especially on a less-than-perfect day, you'll be right up to the edge. Something happens and you could easily find yourself in over your head.

To answer your question, yes "it's okay."

I have the same truck ('05). Your combined gross vehicle weight rating is 20,000, and the maximum trailer weight is 12,500 with a weight-distributing hitch. The truck's designed for it, tested for it and DOT approved for it.

Just be damned sure to keep it under 12.5K. Don't believe the brochures, weigh it!

And if you're truck's anything like mine, it probably came with that crappy Class III hitch. Definitely upgrade to a true Class V, something like a Putnam Class V XDR which is rated as follows: 10,000 lb. Weight Carrying, 1,200 lb. Tongue Weight, and 14,000 lb. Weight Distributing, 1,700 lb. Tongue Weight.

Good points but a correction on the Putnam rating. Unless yours is different then mine (I have a 06) 15k weight carry 16k weight dist.

I had this exact setup and crossed the scales a little over 22K. This is an FYI only, I won't get into if you need a Peterbilt to pull a 353 or not.
