Angry The fun is over at Shell Key

It was bound to happen sooner or later...

By Carlos Moncada of The Tampa Tribune

Published: October 2, 2007

CLEARWATER - Pinellas County commissioners this afternoon unanimously approved banning dogs and alcohol on Shell Key, an ecologically fragile island where officials say partying by boaters has gotten out of hand.

I read the same thing in the St. Pete Times today.
Enviro-whackos strike again, (at least that's the ruse they're using: birds).

after h-cane wilma we had a new "key "pop up next boca grande,it was literally seashells and muck, but everyone started beaching there, someone even put up a "bruce key" sign(brewsky)wasn't acouple of months and they claimed it as a bird sanctuary,it is getting smaller each week.maybe thirty by thirty.

Well hopefully everyone who reads this and has a special place of there own they like to go understands that great things don't last forever. We all need to take care of our hot spots, that means watch out for the boaters that leave trash behind and make sure they clean up there mess. I'm not sure if that is the case down there but I have seen it at our beach in Michigan people pull up drink, eat, and leave there trash on the beach.

How else are we going to keep the channel deep enough to get in there?

Shell Island is probably five times as large as when we moved there in 1971. There wasn't a tree on it then.
