My Bravo bellhousing with the shift cable housing that is still stuck inside it:





How can I get this piece removed so I can proceed with my boat repairs? I don't know about this idea to drill it out with my hand held drill. Is it going to be my only option and fix?

I had to use a bolt cutter to cut off the old cable to remove this bellhousing from my boat. I tried to use a rachet and socket on the backside on what's left of the shift cable housing on the nut but it broke. It just spins around now. I also tried to hammer it out with a brass piece to no avail.

Any help will be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

If you cant spray it and knock it out with a drift then you need to drill it out and try to make it paper thin then shell it out. Becareful you dont go off center, or buy another bell housing.

It has to be drilled out if you can't just drive it out with a drift. Mercruiser has a tool to align the drill bit. Don't hit it with a drift so hard that it mushrooms the end. That will make it hang up for sure. I drilled mine free hand. The bronze cable sheath was a real pain to drill even though I was using a brand new cobalt bit. If you damage the bore a tiny bit, it's really not a big deal. That only means that the new cable needs to be installed with some sealant. There was a new bellhousing on ebay the other day for around 300 if you prefer that route.

No drilling required. Get a 7/16 dp well socket and unscrew the brass nut that is down inside the first pic. Get an open end wrench and hold the nut shown in the second pic. It will screw off then the cable comes out.
