I sent the below email out last month and probably should have posted as well for those folks that i don't have an email address for.

Dear Fellow Velocity Owner,

The 2007 boating season is winding down for many of us in the upper half of the Country. I hope everyone had a great summer spending many enjoyable hours on the water. I spent as much time as possible on the water and away from my PC, no doubt at the expense of communicating to you!

So what’s new with Velocity Powerboats and Velocity Owners? Take a look at the current Powerboat Magazine’s cover. You’ll see “Velocity Invades NASCAR Country” on the lower right corner of the cover. To have event coverage in the venerable Powerboat Magazine is quite an achievement for the Carolina Power Boat Association, Velocity Powerboats and your fellow Velocity Owners attending the Poker Run. While other magazines routinely report on a handful of events every month, Powerboat is very selective and covers only a handful of events each YEAR! If you don’t already have this issue of Powerboat by all means go out and get it. The magazine has several pictures of Velocity Boats and Velocity Owners plus a nice write up on this one-of-a-kind Poker Run that combines local NASCAR race shops, gracious CPBA hospitality and of course, beautiful Lake Norman. Powerboat Magazine’s national coverage definitely provides fantastic exposure for next year’s CPBA Poker Run and for Velocity Powerboats. Congratulations to our many Carolina owners for delivering this great event and to Velocity Powerboats for their outstanding support of the event and for organizing a very special behind the scenes, owners’ tour at Dale Earnhardt Inc. I know that I’m going back next year and I’d recommend that you consider it for your 2008 schedule as well.

Velocity recently announced its new Sport Utility Boat (S.U.B.) line up - see attached press release. Now I already know what many of you are thinking. “First it’s the Super Sport Cruiser line-up and now it’s the Sport Utility Boat - what’s next, a bow rider?” Oh yea they already did that too! Well let me first say that my sentiments lean toward the traditional Velocity boat, owning an old school 22’ and the flat deck 390 model. That being said, the reality is that the market has been shrinking for performance boats the last couple of years. Unit sales are down for most manufacturers. Several reasons come to mind - high gasoline prices, really high insurance rates plus the cost of boating in general has gone up double-digits year over year. Performance boats have been hit hard by this. As an example, an increasing portion of Fountain and Donzi sales have shifted to their center console models. Formula sales are now dominated by its cruising models. It really seems that buyers need their boats to serve several purposes these days to help justify the higher costs. Hence Velocity must change with the times or fade away like so many other good performance boat companies have over the years. So while the SUB may not be right for the traditionalists among us right now it will appeal to many new cross-over, Velocity buyers. In the not too distant future, I suspect some of our hard core owners will even be tempted by the ease of maintenance, reliability and excellent gas mileage that the modern outboard-powered SUB’s offer! I see the SUB as a great offering for the changing times and hope that Velocity keeps its production line very busy building them for new buyers. On the other hand, rest assured, Steve Stepp will continue to build the fast, stern drive powered boats that we crave, whenever we want one! Some things just won’t change with the times!

Enjoy the rest of your boating season and watch for upcoming Owners Group communications.

Sincerely,

Rick Engstrom
Velocity Owners Group
